Senior Congress leader Nana Patole has submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu, demanding the immediate dismissal of the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra. He has also called for the formation of a high-level committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections.
In the memorandum, Patole emphasized that serious discrepancies were reported at more than 12,000 polling stations across 82 assembly constituencies, as recently highlighted by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. Patole noted that these alleged irregularities have cast doubt on the credibility of crores of votes, stating that the issue goes beyond administrative lapses and threatens the foundational values of the Indian Constitution.
His memorandum includes two key demands:
Formation of a High-Level Probe: A judicial or special investigation committee should be set up to thoroughly examine the alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra assembly elections.
Dismissal of the State Government: The current Mahayuti government should be dismissed immediately, pending the results of the investigation, and steps should be taken to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections in the state.
While addressing the President, Patole said, “If the electoral process, which is the soul of democracy, comes under suspicion, the faith of the people is shaken. It is essential to act swiftly and decisively to uphold democratic values.”
This move by the Congress party intensifies the political heat in Maharashtra and highlights growing concerns over electoral transparency and public trust in the democratic process.
