The indefinite hunger strike launched by Prahar Janshakti Party President and MLA Bachchu Kadu on June 8, over various issues faced by farmers, is garnering growing support from leaders across the political spectrum. As his protest enters its seventh day, expressions of solidarity and concern continue to pour in — notably from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
On the same day, senior MNS leader Prakash Mahajan also arrived at the site of the hunger strike and praised Kadu in deeply emotional words. “Bachchu Bhau, you come from a movement. We need to fight the government, not harm ourselves. I bowed before a ruler yesterday, and I bow before you today,” said Mahajan.
He criticized the government sharply, stating, “This is a government with rhinoceros-thick skin. They don’t feel the pain of farmers. Lightweight people have captured power. That’s why leaders like you are needed to shake them.” Mahajan further remarked, “You’ve done exceptional work for the disabled. A leader like you should not risk his life with a hunger strike. Lock the ministers in their homes and let them fast instead — I will stand with you. But please withdraw your hunger strike and return to the field with full strength.”
What began as a lone protest by Prahar Janshakti has now grown into a statewide farmers' movement, with cross-party leaders expressing solidarity. The hunger strike, symbolic of the struggle for farmers’ rights, is now evolving into a more impactful political force. Bachchu Kadu’s agitation is no longer a solitary fight — it is quickly becoming a collective voice for agrarian justice in Maharashtra.
