Rahul Gandhi's criticism of Modi government

Congress leader and newly appointed Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this time criticizing the central government's flagship 'Make in India' initiative. Gandhi alleged that the program has failed to deliver on its promises and accused the Modi government of prioritizing slogans over substantial economic reform.

In a strongly worded post on social media, Gandhi wrote, “It was said that factories would produce more through 'Make in India' and employment would increase. So why has production reached such a low level today? Is youth unemployment increasing? And why have imports from China doubled?”

Gandhi pointed out that since 2014, the share of manufacturing in India’s GDP has declined to 14 percent, which he claims is a clear indication of policy failure. He stressed that the country no longer needs empty announcements but real structural reforms and robust economic support to empower millions of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which are the backbone of India’s economy.

The Congress leader further alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is more focused on “image management” than on resolving pressing economic issues. He reiterated that the growing volume of imports from China and persistent youth unemployment are clear signs of the 'Make in India' campaign’s ineffectiveness.

Gandhi's remarks have sparked renewed political debate over the government’s economic policies, especially at a time when unemployment and trade imbalances remain contentious issues in public discourse.
