During his visit, Singh reviewed the overall security situation and interacted with military personnel stationed in the region. Operation Sindoor, launched in the early hours of May 7, involved precision strikes by Indian forces on terrorist camps. In retaliation, Pakistan attempted attacks on Indian military installations on May 8, 9, and 10.

Addressing troops at the Badami Bagh cantonment in Srinagar, Singh paid heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
“I bow to the supreme sacrifice made by our brave soldiers in the fight against terrorism and extremism. I pay tribute to their memory. I also extend my homage to the innocent civilians who lost their lives in Pahalgam. I salute the courage of our injured soldiers and pray to God for their speedy recovery,” he said.

Expressing pride in the armed forces, Singh added, “I am proud to be among you in such adverse circumstances. The entire country is proud of what you have done during Operation Sindoor under the able leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Before being your Defence Minister, I am an Indian citizen. I have come here to thank you not just as the Defence Minister, but as a fellow citizen of India.”

Singh’s visit underscores the government’s recognition of the military's critical role in ensuring national security and maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Further updates from the Defence Minister's visit are expected in the coming days.
