Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Sanjay Raut launched a scathing attack on the state government during a press conference on Sunday, holding it responsible for the tragic Kundmala bridge accident in Maval taluka. Raut accused the ruling BJP-led administration of neglecting critical infrastructure and prioritizing political gains over public safety.

“There is money to buy MLAs and MPs, money to buy the votes of beloved sisters, but no funds to repair a dangerous bridge. This is nothing short of betrayal of the people,” Raut said, expressing anger over the incident that has drawn widespread criticism.

Raut produced a copy of a letter reportedly written by Maval BJP President Ravindra Bhegde to Public Works Minister Ravindra Chavan on July 11, 2024, in which he had requested ₹8 crore for urgent repairs to the Indrayani river bridge. However, the government approved only ₹80,000 for the work.

“Such careless behavior is not just negligence — it is an insult to the people,” Raut declared. He further alleged that BJP MLAs in Maval are falsely claiming credit for the minimal fund approval, calling it a part of the BJP's "false love for the public."

Raut also questioned the silence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who is the Guardian Minister of Pune district. “It is very unfortunate that Ajit Pawar has not even reacted to this tragedy. He must visit the site immediately and take responsibility,” he said.

Raut did not spare local MLA Sunil Shelke either, urging him to step up and accept accountability for the safety of his constituency. He emphasized that the incident should serve as a wake-up call for the government, and demanded a comprehensive review of infrastructure conditions across flood-prone and tourist-heavy areas ahead of the monsoon season.

The Kundmala bridge collapse, which caused multiple casualties and injuries, has triggered public outrage and political friction, with opposition leaders demanding not only action but also transparency and accountability from those in power.
