According to emerging reports, Supekar approved a weapons license for Nilesh Chavan in 2022, despite the fact that both the rural police and the district collector had earlier rejected Chavan’s application. This revelation has sparked speculation about possible political influence behind the license approval.
Adding to the controversy, it has also been revealed that Shashank and Sushil Hagwane—relatives of the victim’s in-laws—were similarly issued arms licenses.
Chavan, who is linked to the Hagwane family, is already facing legal trouble. He has been booked under the Arms Act at Warje Police Station for allegedly withholding a pistol belonging to the Kaspate family—Vaishnavi’s parents. Furthermore, records show that Chavan was previously accused in 2019 of secretly recording a video of his wife using a spy camera, raising further questions about the background checks conducted before granting the arms license.
In response to the allegations, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated, “I have spoken to Jalindar Supekar, and he has categorically denied any involvement. However, all facts will come to light during the investigation.”
The case has drawn widespread attention from citizens and media alike. With the revelations raising serious concerns about abuse of power and potential favoritism, there is growing public demand for accountability. An official decision on whether action will be taken against Supekar is now awaited from the state administration.
