The ceremony also paid tribute to former MCA president Amol Kale, in whose memory the event was organized.
One of the major highlights of the event was the unveiling of the Rohit Sharma Stand, named after India’s ODI captain. Chief Minister Fadnavis did the honors in the presence of Rohit Sharma, his wife Ritika Sajdeh, and his parents. An emotional Rohit Sharma addressed the gathering, reflecting on his journey from childhood dreams to this moment of recognition.
“I never imagined something like this would happen. As a child, I only dreamed of playing for Mumbai and India. One never thinks about something like having a stand named after them,” said Sharma. “It is even more special because I am still playing. I’ve retired from two formats, but I continue to play one. It’s truly a proud and humbling moment.”
The Sharad Pawar Stand was also inaugurated in recognition of Pawar’s long-standing contributions to cricket administration, particularly his role as a former MCA and BCCI president.
The newly named Ajit Wadekar Stand honors the legacy of the late Indian cricketer and captain, whose contributions to Indian cricket remain invaluable.
The event marked a significant moment in Mumbai’s cricket history, celebrating the achievements of icons who have shaped the game both on and off the field.
