Police have reported a shocking incident where a 25-year-old state-level tennis player was shot dead by her father at their home in Gurugram on Thursday, following a dispute over a social media video. Her father, accused of firing three shots, was arrested after statements from other family members. The victim, named Radhika Yadav, had represented Haryana in several state-level tennis tournaments and was considered an emerging star in the local sports arena.
Police said the incident occurred at 11:30 AM on the first floor of their house. Radhika Yadav had made a 'reel' and was shot over this incident. According to investigators, Radhika Yadav had a dispute with her father over a video reel she shot for social media. Angered by the post, her father took out his licensed revolver and fired.
Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Sandeep Kumar said that preliminary findings indicate that the social media post created tension in the household. "The father expressed anger and shot her. The weapon used was a licensed revolver, which has been seized from the house," he said. Meanwhile, the family took Radhika to a nearby private hospital, but she died during treatment.
