Scroll down to read the news in brief...
There is good news for vehicle owners across the country. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a major change in the KYC process for FASTag. Now, KYC will not be mandatory when purchasing a new FASTag. This means millions of vehicle owners no longer need to worry about constant KYC. This decision will be effective from February 1, 2026, as clarified by NHAI.
Previously, vehicle owners had to complete full KYC when obtaining a new FASTag. This led to many issues due to incorrect information entry, document verification, and other difficulties. Complaints about vehicles getting stuck at toll plazas and being blacklisted had increased. However, now this process will be simplified. During FASTag issuance, vehicle registration verification will be done, and banks will have to verify all the information.
If your vehicle already has a FASTag and there are no complaints, there is no need to redo the KYC. Your FASTag will continue to function smoothly. However, FASTags issued incorrectly will be investigated, and action will be taken if necessary. This change will be a great relief for vehicle owners, making toll travel easier.
This decision by NHAI will make the toll collection process on highways more transparent and faster. Vehicle owners are urged to use the bank's official channel when purchasing FASTag and provide all information accurately.
