Whatsapp Update: Big blow to WhatsApp users! From January 15, this special feature will be closed
A big and important news has emerged for WhatsApp users. Technology giant Microsoft has announced that their Copilot AI chatbot will no longer be available on WhatsApp. The company said on Tuesday that this service will be officially discontinued on January 15, 2026. The reason behind this decision is compliance with WhatsApp's new business API policies related to improvements. These policies prohibit AI chatbots and developers from accessing or using WhatsApp business solutions.
With this change, Microsoft has become the second major provider to shut down its AI chatbot on WhatsApp. Earlier, in October, OpenAI had also withdrawn its ChatGPT bot from WhatsApp. As a result, AI-based conversational tools will now be available on WhatsApp only in a limited form.
According to Microsoft's blog post, the date on which this policy will take effect is January 15, 2026. From that date, the Copilot service will be completely discontinued on WhatsApp. Microsoft has clarified that the company is making special preparations so that users can experience a smooth transition process. Going forward, users will be able to use Copilot on the mobile app, web portal, and PC version.
The company has further clarified that Copilot conversations on WhatsApp cannot be transferred to other platforms as they will not be certified. Therefore, if users wish, they should export their chat history using WhatsApp's export tool before the service is discontinued.
However, the Copilot option will remain available for users and can be accessed on the website copilot.microsoft.com as well as in the Copilot app on iOS and Android devices. This app will include the features available on WhatsApp along with some additional capabilities that the WhatsApp platform did not previously support.
Additionally, according to WhatsApp's new policies, ChatGPT will also no longer be available for use on WhatsApp from January 15, 2025. OpenAI has stated that users can link their ChatGPT account to WhatsApp, and past conversations can be viewed in the history section of the ChatGPT app. This decision is expected to bring a major change in the AI chatbot market, and users will now have to turn to alternative platforms for communication and assistance.
