In a shocking turn of events, Meghalaya Police have made a major breakthrough in the mysterious death of Raja Raghuvanshi, a newlywed from Indore who was found murdered during his honeymoon. Authorities have now arrested his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, identifying her as the prime conspirator in what police describe as a premeditated killing rooted in an illicit love affair.

Timeline of the Crime

Raja and Sonam had arrived in Meghalaya’s Mavlakhiyat village on May 22 as part of their honeymoon trip. They rented a scooter and traveled to the picturesque Nongriat village, descending nearly 3,000 steps to visit the famous Living Root Bridge. The couple stayed overnight at a homestay on May 22 and checked out the following morning. They were reported missing soon after.

On June 2, Raja’s decomposed body was discovered in a pit nearly 20 kilometers from the couple’s accommodation, following a search operation aided by drone surveillance.

Following her surrender in Ghazipur, Sonam was taken into custody. Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) I. Nongrang confirmed that Sonam and three other individuals had been arrested in connection with the case.

The Hidden Lover and the Deadly Conspiracy

The investigation took a dark turn when police uncovered Sonam's alleged relationship with another man from Indore's Banganga area. According to police sources, just three days after marrying Raja, Sonam began planning his murder with the help of her lover. The honeymoon to Shillong was reportedly used as a cover for the crime.

Though the boyfriend did not travel to Meghalaya himself, he is alleged to have arranged for three hired killers to execute the murder. All three have since been arrested.

Digital Clues Lead to Breakthrough

Investigators traced Sonam’s call records and discovered frequent communication between her and the unidentified lover. The suspects reportedly acquired weapons in Shillong, and after the killing, disposed of Raja’s mobile phone, T-shirt, and the murder weapons in the trunk of the rented scooter.

Police are now actively searching for the mastermind in Indore who allegedly orchestrated the entire operation and dispatched the hired killers. Meanwhile, Sonam remains in custody, and the case continues to develop.
