Mira Gitte, the wife of Mahadev Gitte—an accused in the Bapu Andhale murder case—has made serious allegations against Valmik Karad, claiming that jail inmates, including her husband, were beaten on his orders.

In a formal meeting with Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kavat, Mira Gitte demanded the CCTV footage of an alleged assault that took place inside Beed jail. She claimed that not only her husband, but also other accused individuals—specifically Santosh Deshmukh (in a separate case), Vilas Gitte, and Raghu Phad from Parli—were subjected to physical abuse while in custody.

Allegations of Pre-Planned Assault

According to Mira Gitte, the beatings inside the jail were not spontaneous but had been planned over a span of three days. She alleged that sticks were used in the attack, further intensifying the seriousness of the claims. She called for an official investigation into the assaults on Vilas Gitte, Raghu Phad, and Sudeep Sonawane, raising concerns over the treatment of under-trial prisoners.

“This was not a random incident. It was a planned act of violence executed on the orders of Valmik Karad,” said Mira Gitte during her interaction with the media.

She further informed the Superintendent of Police about the incident and noted that she was advised to pursue the matter with the jail administration for further action.

Background of the Jail Conflict

The situation in Beed jail escalated after it was claimed that Mahadev Gitte and another accused, Akshay Athawale—both held in connection with the Bapu Andhale murder case—had allegedly assaulted Valmik Karad and an individual named Ghule. Following this incident, Mahadev Gitte and Athawale were transferred from Beed jail to another facility.

In a statement made prior to his transfer, Mahadev Gitte reportedly claimed that he was beaten in retaliation, again naming Valmik Karad as the instigator behind the violence. Mira Gitte’s recent allegations appear to reinforce this claim.

Demand for Investigation and Accountability

Mira Gitte has called for a thorough investigation into the incident and urged authorities to take strict action if the allegations are proven true. The matter has raised fresh questions about inmate safety and possible abuse of power within the prison system.

The prison authorities and law enforcement agencies are yet to issue an official response regarding the accusations.
