In a deeply tragic incident that has shocked the Jail Road locality of Nashik, a retired school principal allegedly strangled his chronically ill wife and then took his own life. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and has cast a pall of mourning across the neighborhood.

The deceased have been identified as Muralidhar Joshi (78) and his wife Lata Joshi (76). Both had served as school principals in Umbarkhed, located in Jalgaon district. After retiring from service, the couple settled in Ekdant Apartment on Jail Road in Nashik in 2017.

Health Struggles and Emotional Exhaustion

A few months ago, Lata Joshi suffered a brain hemorrhage and remained in a coma for nearly six weeks. Despite medical intervention and substantial financial expenditure, her condition did not improve. She continued to suffer from multiple ailments, which reportedly caused immense emotional and psychological distress for her husband, Muralidhar Joshi.

According to police sources, Joshi had grown mentally and physically exhausted while caring for his wife. The couple had recently visited their two sons, who are employed in high-ranking positions in Mumbai. Joshi had also joined the Senior Citizens’ Association, perhaps seeking support or companionship in his later years.

Final Note: 'No One Is Responsible'

On Wednesday evening, Joshi allegedly strangled his wife and later died by suicide. A note recovered at the scene read, “No one is responsible for our death.” The matter came to light after a housekeeper alerted the authorities. Officers from Upnagar Police Station are currently investigating the case.

“This appears to be a case of extreme emotional distress. The note clearly indicates that no external person was involved,” an official from Upnagar police confirmed.

Community in Mourning

The news has left residents of Ekdant Apartment and the surrounding area in shock and grief. Locals remember the couple as kind, respectable individuals who had dedicated their lives to education. The tragedy has also sparked conversations about elderly care, caregiver fatigue, and the emotional toll of chronic illness.
