In Mohol taluka of Solapur district, Swati Jayant Thorat, a 33-year-old married woman, committed suicide by hanging due to harassment from her in-laws. Swati was married to Jayant Thorat of Telangwadi in 2015. Her family has alleged that she was constantly mentally harassed by her in-laws after the marriage.
According to Swati's family, she had been suspected of her character for a few days and was told to bring 5 lakh rupees from her parents' home. The family believes that she committed suicide without holding on due to all this harassment.
After this incident, a case has been registered at Mohol police station against her husband Jayant Thorat, father-in-law Chandrakant Thorat, mother-in-law Sindhumati Thorat, and sister-in-law Ashwini Patil for abetting Swati's suicide and causing mental harassment.
