Akshay Kumar Responds to Jaya Bachchan's Criticism: “Watch the Film Before Commenting”
Veteran actress and Member of Parliament Jaya Bachchan recently criticized Akshay Kumar’s 2017 film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, stating that she would “never go to see such films.” In response, actor Akshay Kumar has now addressed her remarks, defending the intention and message behind the film.
Akshay, known for creating content-driven cinema with social messages, responded during a press conference held for the promotion of his upcoming film Kesari Chapter 2. When asked about Bachchan’s comment, he firmly stated:
“I don’t think anyone should criticize such films. Anyone who does is, frankly, being foolish. You should watch the movie yourself before passing judgment. I’ve made Pad Man, Airlift, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Kesari, and now Kesari Chapter 2. I’ve created many such films, and I don’t believe they deserve criticism.”
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which starred Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, was widely appreciated for addressing the issue of open defecation and sanitation in rural India. The film was both a commercial success and a conversation starter for public hygiene and women’s dignity.
When further pressed about past criticisms, Akshay added:
“If people are saying such things, then maybe I made a mistake by making Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. If that’s the case, then fine,” he remarked sarcastically, clearly expressing disappointment at the negative commentary.
