Dino Morea Questioned in ₹65 Crore Mithi River Scam; EOW Probes Financial Links
Bollywood actor Dino Morea and his brother Santino Morea were questioned on Monday by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police in connection with the ₹65 crore Mithi River cleaning scam. The actor’s name emerged during the investigation after his conversation with one of the main accused came to light, prompting the EOW to summon him for further inquiry.
Actor’s Involvement Under Scanner
Police officials stated that Dino Morea was questioned to ascertain his potential involvement in the scam and to verify financial transactions between him and the accused. His interrogation aimed to clarify the nature of his interactions and the flow of funds linked to the case.
The investigation, which has already resulted in multiple arrests, revolves around alleged financial irregularities in the rental of dredging equipment for the cleaning of the Mithi River — a crucial environmental and infrastructure initiative managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Key Accused and Modus Operandi
Earlier, the EOW had arrested two individuals in the case: Ketan Kadam and Jayesh (Jay) Joshi. According to investigators, the duo allegedly charged the BMC highly inflated rates for river-dredging machinery that was procured from Kochi-based Matprop Technical Services Private Limited.
Authorities believe that the accused orchestrated the scheme in collusion with officials from both Matprop and the BMC’s Storm Water Drainage (SWD) department. The overpriced contracts and irregular procurement procedures are at the core of the scam, which has raised serious concerns about corruption in municipal infrastructure projects.
Widening Investigation
With new names emerging during the inquiry, the EOW has intensified its investigation to uncover the full scope of the financial mismanagement. Officials have not ruled out further interrogations or arrests as they trace the network of transactions and communications among the accused parties.
Dino Morea’s questioning is being treated as part of the broader effort to understand all aspects of the scam, though police have not yet confirmed any direct involvement on his part. The case continues to unfold, with more revelations expected in the coming weeks.
