Donald Trump Announces Federal Takeover of D.C., Police
President of the United States, Donald Trump, has decided to bring the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control and deploy hundreds of National Guard troops in the city. "Today is Independence Day for DC. We are going to take back our capital city," he stated, referring to it as the 'restoration of law and order'.
Since taking office as President, Trump has made a series of bold decisions. These include actions against illegal immigrants and imposing tariffs on foreign imports. The new decision taken for Washington DC has sparked discussions not only in America but also internationally.
According to the action announced by Trump, the National Guard will be allowed to work without any obstacles or restrictions. He clarified that the main objective behind this is to control the increasing violent crimes in the city and ensure public safety.
This action is being taken under the "District of Columbia Home Rule Act", which will result in local police control being directly transferred to the federal administration. In a press conference held in the presence of senior officials including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump stated that "this is a necessary decision to re-establish peace and security in Washington."
Earlier this year, Trump had similarly deployed the National Guard in Los Angeles, activating federal agencies despite opposition from the local governor. Experts believe these steps in Washington DC are along the same lines.
