Donald Trump announces Trade Deal with Japan
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a historic trade agreement with Japan. This agreement is now recognized as the “largest trade agreement in history.” According to this agreement, Japan will invest a whopping $550 billion in the United States, which Trump claims will create millions of jobs. The previous trade tensions between America and Japan have been resolved due to this agreement.
Under this agreement, Japan will open its market for American agricultural products, rice, cars, and trucks. In return, America has agreed to impose a 15% retaliatory tariff on Japanese goods. According to Trump, America will gain 90% economic benefit from this, marking the beginning of a new era in the relations between the two countries.
In recent years, there have been disagreements over trade policies between the two countries. Particularly, Japan's limited demand for American rice and cars was a major issue. However, this agreement was made possible after a meeting between Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and America's Treasury Secretary Scott Bezant.
In the backdrop of the US-Japan agreement, a positive impact was seen in the Asian stock markets. Japan's Nikkei 225 index witnessed a strong surge of 1,092 points. Markets in India, Hong Kong, China, and South Korea were also trading in the green in the morning. This agreement is also a ray of hope for India. Currently, the US and India are discussing many trade-related issues. It is speculated that after such a historic agreement, the US might also make a major trade agreement with India in the future.
