Kashmir Alert: Security forces on alert as IED found on highway in Kashmir; CRPF and police halt traffic
A major terror plot was foiled on Saturday when an improvised explosive device (IED) was found on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway in Sopore, North Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces acted promptly to neutralize the explosive and have initiated a thorough investigation in the area.
There was panic among the locals after a suspicious object was found in the Haigam area of Sopore. A joint team of the Army, CRPF, and police rushed to the spot and immediately halted traffic on both sides of the highway. The bomb disposal team (BD) was called in, the IED was seized, and after inspection, it was completely destroyed. During this operation, traffic was diverted, causing some confusion for a while.
The police officer said that this incident could be part of a major terrorist plot and the investigation into who placed the IED is in full swing. A search operation is being conducted throughout the area, and traffic control has been maintained as a precautionary measure. An IED is an explosive made from readily available materials in an informal manner, which terrorists create to target people and are used to disrupt infrastructure.
