PM Modi Vs Donald Trump: PM Modi Rejects Trump's Assertion of Mediation with Pakistan
In a significant diplomatic development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a foreign tour, held a 35-minute phone conversation with former U.S. President Donald Trump, during which he firmly dismissed Trump’s earlier claims of having mediated peace between India and Pakistan. The call, which was scheduled to take place in person during the upcoming G7 Summit in Canada, was conducted virtually after Trump cut short his visit due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi categorically stated that India does not require or accept third-party mediation in matters related to its bilateral issues with Pakistan. His remarks directly contradicted Trump’s previous assertion that his efforts had helped bring about a ceasefire between the two South Asian nations.
Modi further explained that Pakistan had de-escalated following India’s strong retaliatory action, not due to any international intervention. Highlighting India's proactive defense posture, Modi briefed Trump on ‘Operation Sindoor’, which involved targeted strikes on terror camps in Pakistan in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
“India has made no compromises in its defense policy. If necessary, bullets will be answered with bullets,” Modi stated firmly, emphasizing the country’s uncompromising stance on national security.
The Prime Minister also criticized Trump’s claim of mediation, labeling it "baseless", and reaffirmed India’s self-reliant and decisive foreign policy. This phone call, now making global headlines, has once again underlined India’s independent approach to national security and diplomacy, especially in matters involving hostile neighbors. The discussion reflects India's position on strategic autonomy, sending a clear message that New Delhi will not tolerate external interference in its sovereign matters.
