According to the State of Global Air 2025 report, in 2023, more than 2 million citizens in the country died from diseases caused by air pollution. This number has increased by a staggering 43% compared to the year 2000. Among those who died, 89% were due to non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, and diabetes. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, and West Bengal are the leading states in the list of states with the highest deaths due to pollution-related diseases. These states have the highest number of deaths from pollution-related diseases.
