Donald Trump: Donald Trump Renews Claim Over India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again reignited controversy over his role in mediating peace between India and Pakistan, claiming he played a crucial role in averting a potential war between the two nuclear-armed neighbors—yet still receives no recognition. In a recent interview with Fox News, Trump said, “Stopping the India-Pakistan war is one of my biggest achievements. But I still didn’t get the credit.” He went on to say that he used trade as a diplomatic tool, offering both countries trade deals in exchange for de-escalating tensions. “Now I’m using business to settle the score and bring peace,” Trump added.

Trump’s comments mark a return to a claim he has made multiple times. During his presidency, he initially took credit via Twitter, stating that tensions between India and Pakistan had eased due to his mediation. However, during a later visit to U.S. troops at Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, he appeared to reverse course, saying he “did not mediate between the two countries.” Despite this inconsistency, Trump has again asserted his role in diplomacy between South Asia's two biggest rivals, suggesting that business and trade were his main instruments of influence.

He also spoke about an upcoming trade deal between the U.S. and India, stating that India has agreed to reduce tariffs on American goods by 100 percent. Trump reiterated his longstanding criticism of India’s trade policy, calling it “one of the highest taxing countries in the world.” While official confirmation of the proposed trade deal is awaited, Trump’s remarks are once again stirring debate about his foreign policy legacy and his often-controversial claims.
