While artificial intelligence has made many tasks easier, its misuse is also leading to new forms of crime. A recent example of this was seen in Mumbai's Central Railway, where three passengers using AI to create fake AC local passes were caught by railway staff. The railway administration has taken strict action against these three.

What exactly happened?

This incident came to light during ticket inspection on the Parel-Kalyan AC local on the evening of November 28 at 6:45. TTE Prashant Kamble and RPF personnel were checking passengers' tickets. At that time, a young woman and two young men showed their season pass in the form of a photo on their mobile.

The suspicious thing was

  • The pass was not opening in the UTS app

  • The photo was directly saved in the phone's “Documents” folder

  • There was no QR code

  • All three ticket numbers were “XOOJHN4569” the same

  • Tickets generated by AI

Finally, the investigation revealed that these passes were not taken from any official app, but were artificially created using AI. The passengers did not admit their mistake; however, they were exposed as the ticket could not be opened in the app. When TTE Kamble checked the passengers' mobile numbers in the system, it was found that no season pass was issued on those numbers. This confirmed the fraud. The railway administration praised the TTE for his role in stopping the fake ticket racket.

Railway Warning: Fake Ticket Cases Increasing

In recent days, several types of such AI-generated passes have come to light. Central Railway has given a clear warning that—

  • Only official counters

  • ATVM machines

  • or genuine UTS app
