According to Trump, the revenue from the oil purchased by India from Russia is being used for the war against Ukraine, forcing the US to take tough decisions. His advisors have also supported the claim that India's dependence on Russian oil is the reason for the tariff increase. Additionally, in his latest remarks, Trump claimed that after the US imposed strict sanctions on Russian oil companies, India has completely stopped purchasing oil from Russia.

Trump also indicated that if Russia's economic grip is tightened, the strain of the war on Ukraine could be reduced. He mentioned that the US is increasing economic pressure on Russia.
