There have been continuous changes in the weather in the state for the past few days. Since the beginning of December, there has been severe cold, and the chill has increased due to the influence of cold waves from the north. Although the cold wave has disappeared due to the reduction of cold waves coming from the north, the chill remains. The weather department has predicted fluctuations in temperature in the coming days. At the same time, the issue of air pollution has become serious, and due to the deterioration of air quality, cases of illnesses like colds, fever, and throat irritation are increasing. Doctors have warned not to go out without wearing a mask.

The lowest temperature in the state has been recorded in Dhule, where the temperature was recorded at 5.5 degrees Celsius. In Niphad, it was 6.5 degrees, in Parbhani 7.2 degrees, and in Jeur 7.5 degrees Celsius. In Nagpur, Bhandara, Pune, Malegaon, and Yavatmal, the temperature has dropped to 10 degrees. The cold has intensified in Vidarbha, and citizens are having to rely on warm clothing. The air quality has deteriorated in Pune as well as in Mumbai, leading to an increase in respiratory disorders.

The air quality in Pune is continuously deteriorating. Despite the air quality index being in the moderate to poor category for the past few weeks, the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) by the municipal corporation is limited to paper only. Due to the lack of branded measures, environmental experts and citizens have expressed dissatisfaction. The municipal corporation's inactivity has led to failure in controlling pollution.

Areas likely to receive heavy rainfall

On the other hand, while some parts of the country are experiencing cold, some places are witnessing heavy rain. Despite heavy rainfall during this year's monsoon, rain continues in some states. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain in Uttarakhand, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Puducherry from December 17 to 20. Experts have advised citizens of the state to be cautious of cold and pollution.

Summary
  • IMD alert for heavy rain from December 17 to 20

  • Warning for several states including Uttarakhand, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka

  • Cold persists in the state, temperature drops to 5.5 degrees in some areas

  • Health risk due to increasing air pollution, advisory for caution
