Pakistan launches drone attacks on 26 Indian cities for second consecutive day; India retaliates
Amidst escalating hostilities, Pakistan carried out drone attacks across 26 locations in India for the second consecutive day, intensifying tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. India, which launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the earlier Pahalgam attack, continues to respond decisively to Pakistan's aggression.
Operation Sindoor: India's Retaliatory Air Strikes
The Indian Army initiated Operation Sindoor following the deadly Pahalgam attack, targeting nine terror launchpads located deep within Pakistan-occupied territory. The Indian Air Force conducted surgical strikes on these locations, aiming to dismantle terrorist infrastructure.
Pakistan retaliated on Thursday, May 8, 2025, initiating cross-border assaults beginning at 9 PM. However, the Indian armed forces have been resolute in countering each act of aggression with a firm response.
Pakistan’s Drone Offensive and India’s Defense Measures
On Friday, May 9, 2025, Pakistan once again launched a massive drone offensive, targeting 26 cities across India—from Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir to Bhuj in Gujarat. Indian defense forces, equipped with an advanced counter-drone system, successfully intercepted and neutralized all aerial threats.
The cities targeted included key locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, with specific strikes attempted on Srinagar, Awantipora, Nagrota, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala.
In Ferozepur, a civilian area was hit by an armed drone. A local family sustained serious injuries in the attack, with three members currently undergoing treatment in a local hospital.
Missile Accusations Further Heighten Tensions
In a new development, Pakistan has accused India of launching six ballistic missiles targeting key military installations. While India has not officially confirmed the action, sources suggest that the missiles were directed at:
Nur Khan Airbase, Rawalpindi
Rafiqui Airbase, Shorkot
Murid Airbase, Chakwal
The Pakistani military has condemned the missile strikes as "irresponsible," escalating diplomatic rhetoric. Following these alleged strikes, Pakistan closed its airspace to civilian traffic and issued a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), placing its forces on heightened alert.
Both Armies on High Alert
With both countries exchanging military strikes and hostile rhetoric, the situation remains volatile. Troops on both sides of the border are on high alert as international observers express growing concern over the potential for further escalation.
India has reiterated its position that its actions are defensive and targeted at dismantling terror threats. Meanwhile, the government has urged the public to remain calm and rely on verified official communication channels.
