Railways to Install CCTV Cameras in Every Coach: Major Step Towards Passenger Safety
(Indian Railway) Prioritizing the safety of railway passengers across the country, the Railway Ministry has made a major decision. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved the installation of CCTV cameras in 74,000 coaches and 15,000 engines nationwide. This step has been taken to curb theft, disputes, and misconduct in the railways.
A decision will be made to activate digital surveillance systems in each compartment, under which high-quality CCTV cameras will be installed in each coach and engine. According to information received from the railway administration, there will be two cameras near the entrance in each compartment. Additionally, each coach will have four 'dome type' CCTV cameras. One at the front, one at the back, and one on each side. A total of 6 cameras will be installed in each engine.
Currently, this plan will be implemented on an experimental basis in some compartments. It is being informed that the CCTV system will be gradually activated in other compartments as well.
