In the devotional atmosphere of Mahashivratri, good news has emerged for Shiva devotees, as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, Kedarnath Dham, will soon be open for darshan. On the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri, it was announced at the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath after calculating the almanac that on April 22, 2026, at 8 AM, the temple doors will open for devotees during the Taurus ascendant.

The doors of this ancient Shiva temple, located on the snow-covered peaks of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, remain closed for six months due to snowfall, while the traditional opening ceremony will begin on April 18. On April 19, the Panchmukhi idol will depart from Ukhimath to Fata, will take a night halt at Gaurikund on April 20, and will reach Kedarnath on April 21. This ceremony will accelerate the preparations for the Kedarnath pilgrimage of millions of devotees.

The dates for the 2026 Char Dham Yatra have also been fixed, with Gangotri-Yamunotri opening on April 19, and Badrinath opening on April 23 at 6:15 AM. To facilitate the pilgrimage, registration will begin in the second week of March with a 30% offline quota reserved, a green card for private vehicles, and a trip card for professionals will be mandatory.

A tracking system is being installed in helicopter services, and special measures will be taken for VIP viewing windows and crowd management at all four dhams. Last year, 1.768 million devotees visited Kedarnath, and this number is expected to increase this year.
