Montha Cyclone : Montha Cyclone wreaks havoc in Andhra Pradesh! Rain and wind intensity remain; Know every update on the danger
The intensity of Cyclone Montha has decreased after hitting the coast of Andhra Pradesh. According to the information provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this cyclone is now moving forward as a “normal cyclonic storm.” It is moving at a speed of about 10 km/h in the northwest direction of the state, crossing the Yanam region between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam. Its center was located 20 km away from Narsapur.
The IMD is closely monitoring the situation in Machilipatnam and Visakhapatnam with the help of Doppler radar. There is still a risk of strong winds and rain in the coastal areas. Winds are blowing at a speed of 50 to 70 km/h in Vijayawada, and the increasing rain has affected normal life. Citizens are advised to stay safe for the next few hours.
There have been reports of many trees falling, power outages, and waterlogging in West and East Godavari as well as Krishna districts. A woman died due to a tree falling in Konaseema, and so far, 3 people have lost their lives in the state.
The government has taken emergency measures and imposed a night curfew from 8:30 PM to 6 AM in 7 districts. However, emergency and medical vehicles are allowed. The cyclone has also significantly affected flights and railway services, with more than 150 flights and trains being canceled.
45 teams of NDRF are engaged in rescue and relief operations. The impact of the cyclone is also being felt in Odisha, with red and orange alerts issued in several districts. More than 11,000 people have been relocated to safe places, and the administration is on alert.
