100 rs Coin: Now a 100 Rupee Coin Will Also Be Available; Discover the Special Features of the Coin
On the occasion of the birth centenary of the father of the Green Revolution and the scientist who revolutionized the Indian agricultural sector, Prof. Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, the Government of India is set to issue a special commemorative 100 Rupee coin. On July 11, 2025, the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India released an official notification regarding this, and the coin will be minted at the Government of India's mint in Kolkata.
This special coin weighs 35 grams and has a diameter of 44 mm. The edge of the coin will have 200 serrations. This coin will be made from a quad-metal alloy, consisting of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc. The coin will feature India's national emblem, the Ashoka Pillar, and the face of Dr. Swaminathan. This coin will serve as a historical symbol commemorating their work.
Dr. Swaminathan brought about the Green Revolution in India during the 1960s, making the country self-sufficient in food grain production. He recommended many scientific measures for the benefit of farmers and provided a strong foundation for India's food security. His contributions improved the living standards of millions of farmers.
Recognizing his unparalleled work, the Government of India posthumously honored him with the 'Bharat Ratna', the highest civilian award, in 2024. This special coin, issued on the occasion of his birth centenary year, will become a permanent symbol of his memory in history. This coin is not just currency, but a national tribute to Dr. Swaminathan's enduring work.
