A storm has arisen due to the strict ban on the use of mobile phones by women and girls in Ghazipur village of Jalore district, Rajasthan. According to the decision taken by the village panchayat, from January 26, daughters-in-law and girls in 15 villages will be completely prohibited from using phones with smartphones or cameras. They will be allowed to use only keypad phones.
This decision was taken in a meeting of the Chaudhary community chaired by Sujanram Chaudhary. The panchayat clarified that women and girls are prohibited from taking mobile phones to weddings, social events, or neighbors' houses, or any outside places. If there is a need for a mobile for study purposes, it can only be used at home, while its use will be completely restricted in schools or other external events.
Panch Himmtaram stated that the main reason for this decision is to prevent the misuse of women's phones and to ensure that children's studies are not adversely affected. Sujanram Choudhary explained that girls often use women's phones unauthorizedly, which distracts them and affects their studies. Therefore, this ban becomes essential.
This ban is not limited to Gazipur village alone but will be applicable in a total of 15 villages across 14 subdivisions. From Republic Day (January 26), it will be mandatory for all women and girls in the community to strictly adhere to these rules. This decision has sparked discussions at the local level, with social activists and women's organizations criticizing it.
