While the cold wave is sweeping across the country, roads in the hilly areas have been closed due to snowfall, making it impossible to operate school buses. Against this backdrop, the government has declared holidays for all schools from December 13 to 19. Due to the cold in the morning, it had become difficult to send young children to school, and their health was at risk, hence this decision was made. This has provided great relief to students and parents.
Due to the severity of the cold, the duration of school holidays has been set differently according to classes. Pre-primary schools will remain closed from December 26, 2025, to February 28, 2026, to ensure that the health of young children is not at risk.
Students from first to eighth grade will be on vacation from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026. Students from ninth to twelfth grade will be out of school from December 11, 2025, to February 22, 2026. Due to snow disrupting transportation in mountainous areas, this extended vacation has been deemed necessary for the safety of the students.
In Jammu and Kashmir, schools have been declared a long holiday due to bone-chilling cold. In other states of the country, many places are also giving school holidays due to increased cold. Decisions are being made district-wise according to local temperatures, and the impact of cold is severe in North India.
The weather department has warned of further cold next week. During this time, parents are advised to keep children indoors with warm clothes. The school holiday will affect the curriculum, but priority has been given to health. The government has made this decision with the welfare of the students in mind, and planning is underway to ensure schools resume smoothly after the holidays.
