Pune News: Good News for Tourists! Sinhagad Fort to Reopen from June 5 with New Rules in Place
There’s good news for history lovers and trekkers—Sinhagad Fort, a popular tourist destination near Pune, will reopen to the public starting June 5, 2025. The fort had been temporarily closed since May 29 due to an extensive anti-encroachment drive carried out by various government departments.
The joint operation, led by the Forest Department in coordination with the Revenue Department, Archaeological Department, Police Administration, and the Public Works Department, resulted in the removal of 141 unauthorized stalls and several RCC structures that had come up illegally around the fort premises.
Sinhagad Fort, known for its historical significance and breathtaking natural beauty, attracts thousands of tourists, especially on weekends and holidays. The 2.7-kilometer trekking route, which includes an elevation gain of around 600 meters, is especially popular among fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Officials stated that due to the fort’s rugged terrain and heritage sensitivity, the entire encroachment removal operation had to be carried out manually, without the use of heavy machinery. This careful approach was aimed at preserving the ecological and historical integrity of the site.
The administration has also issued a fresh set of guidelines for visitors, urging them to maintain cleanliness and cooperate with local authorities. “Visitors should respect the natural and historical importance of the site. We appeal to everyone to avoid littering and to follow the new safety norms,” said an official from the Forest Department.
With the fort reopening under a renewed sense of preservation and regulation, tourists can once again enjoy the scenic beauty and historical richness of Sinhagad—this time, with a more responsible and sustainable approach.
