As the nation mourns the loss of 241 lives in the horrific crash of Air India’s Dreamliner 787-9 aircraft in Ahmedabad, a surprising twist has captured public attention: a viral post by astrologer Astro Sharmishtha, who had allegedly predicted a major aviation disaster days before the incident.

The ill-fated Air India Flight AI171, en route from Ahmedabad to London, crashed on June 12 near BJ Medical College’s resident doctors' hostel, moments after takeoff. The aircraft was carrying 242 passengers and 12 crew members, including 169 Indians, 52 British citizens, 7 Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. Among the victims was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who died in the crash while his family sustained serious injuries.

While the investigation into the technical cause of the crash is underway, social media is abuzz with discussions around a set of predictions made by Astro Sharmishtha on social platform X (formerly Twitter). Her posts — dated December 29, 2024, and June 5, 2025 — have resurfaced and are now being widely circulated online.

In her December 29 post, she wrote:

"The aviation sector will do well in 2025, but news of plane crashes may shock us, as predicted two months ago. A slight improvement in the sector has begun. When Jupiter is in the Gemini region of Mrigashira and Ardra, moving at approx. 6.5 degrees per month, aviation will flourish but safety and security will be low."

Further intensifying interest is a post she made on June 5, just a week before the tragedy, which said: "Tata will make the fuselage of Rafale aircraft in Hyderabad — this is just aviation expansion. Over the next two years, ISRO will surprise the world in space and satellite engineering, space tourism. I still stand by my prediction of plane crashes and destruction in aviation in 2025."

Following the crash on June 12, many are sharing her posts with a mix of awe and speculation. While some call it a coincidence, others are amazed at the apparent accuracy of her statements. Authorities, however, remain focused on the technical investigation. The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) has ordered a thorough safety audit of all Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft in India, and Air India has been directed to submit a detailed report on the incident. As the country reels from the tragedy, the resurfaced prediction adds another layer of intrigue to a deeply saddening event — one that continues to raise both technical and metaphysical questions.
