Six people died yesterday after a slab on the fourth floor of the Saptashrungi building in Kalyan East collapsed. The Kalyan police have arrested the landlord of the fourth floor, Deepak Chaurasia, in this case.

The Saptashrungi building in Chiknipada area was constructed in 2006. However, the municipality had declared this building as a dangerous building last year. Still, citizens were living in this building. Repair work was going on in the house of Deepak Chaurasia on the fourth floor of this building yesterday. However, suddenly a slab in this house collapsed. These slabs kept collapsing due to the weight of each other. The 'smashing' of the slab made a loud noise. Citizens ran to save their lives. Other citizens in the building and people around came running for rescue. However, due to the collapse of the slab, people could not enter. Therefore, the fire brigade was called. Fire brigade chief Namdev Chaudhary and his team immediately reached the spot.

Commissioner Abhinav Goyal called the Thane District Emergency Team. They immediately started the rescue work. Six people have died and six others have been injured in the slab collapse accident. In this case, the Kolsewadi police have arrested Deepak Chaurasia, the owner of the house who was doing repair work in the collapsed building. A case of culpable homicide has been registered against him. Kalyan ACP Kalyanji Ghete has informed that some samples of the slab will be collected and sent to the lab for examination.
