Sunjay Kapur: Who will succeed Sanjay Kapoor after his death? The company has issued an official statement
After the sudden demise of businessman Sanjay Kapur, former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, speculations have been rife regarding the future of Sona Comstar, the global auto component giant he chaired. Kapur, aged 53, suffered a fatal heart attack while playing polo in London on June 12, leaving behind an empire valued at over ₹31,000 crore. In response to growing speculation over who will take over the company, Sona Comstar has released a public statement addressing the situation and outlining the company's next steps.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden demise of our former Chairman, Mr. Sanjay Kapur. Since 2019, the business management and leadership of Sona Comstar has been effectively led by our CEO, Mr. Vivek Vikram Singh. The company continues to operate smoothly, and there has been no change in its management,” the statement read.
The company further confirmed that an official board meeting will soon be convened to elect a new Chairman. Until then, business operations will continue under the existing leadership structure. The company emphasized that Sanjay Kapur’s passing, though deeply mourned, will not disrupt its operations or governance.
Sanjay Kapur had taken over the reins of Sona Comstar after the death of his father and played a pivotal role in expanding the company’s footprint across India, the US, China, Mexico, and Serbia. His efforts transformed the company into a global leader in automobile spare parts manufacturing.
In terms of inheritance and succession, the company clarified that Sanjay Kapur’s children are still too young to take over executive responsibilities. Kapur had four children — two from his second wife Karisma Kapoor, one son from his third wife Priya Sachdev, and an adopted daughter. Due to their age, no immediate succession within the family has been announced.
Legally, Priya Sachdev, Sanjay Kapur’s current wife, has inherited the rights to manage his assets, but the family has not yet made any official statement about who will lead Sona Comstar going forward. As the business world mourns the loss of one of India’s prominent industrialists, the future leadership of Sona Comstar is now a matter of corporate deliberation and family discretion.
