24-hour Power Outage for Government Offices in Maharashtra? Major Action by MSEDCL on 16,981 Offices
A serious and attention-grabbing news has emerged from Maharashtra. Due to outstanding electricity bills in the Amravati circle, Mahavitaran has now issued a direct action warning. Despite multiple notices, messages, and a four-hour power cut on January 22, the government offices that do not pay their electricity bills will have their power supply cut off for a full 24 hours on February 12. This action includes 16,981 government offices.
For Mahavitaran, the collection of electricity bills is the main source of income. However, in the Amravati and Yavatmal districts, outstanding dues amounting to crores of rupees have accumulated from thousands of government offices. Offices in Amravati owe approximately 132 crore rupees, while those in Yavatmal have outstanding electricity bills of a whopping 306 crore rupees.
Notably, more than 5,000 offices in the circle have not paid their electricity bills even once since April 2025. As a result, there is a significant burden on the employees of Mahavitaran for recovery, and they are being held responsible for this. If the electricity bills are not paid soon, the power supply to government offices may be permanently disconnected. This could directly impact office operations, and Mahavitaran has warned that administrative work may come to a standstill.
