Pune – The 2025-26 sugarcane crushing season in the state has now reached its final stage, and sugar production has reached a new milestone this year. So far, a total of 82 lakh 55 thousand tons of sugar has been produced in the state, officially surpassing the previous season's mark of 81 lakh tons. Therefore, this season is proving satisfactory for the sugar industry.

There are more than 199 cooperative and private sugar factories operating in the state, and the crushing season started from November 1. Currently, 200 factories together have completed crushing 888 lakh tonnes of sugarcane. It is expected that the season for most factories will continue until March 15, after which only a few factories will remain operational.

This year, the Pune division has completed the crushing of the highest 199.52 lakh tonnes of sugarcane. Additionally, 191.52 lakh quintals of sugar production has been achieved in the Pune division. Due to the availability of sugarcane and efficient management, the Pune division has taken the lead in crushing. Meanwhile, the Kolhapur division has topped in the highest sugar production and net sugar recovery. In the Kolhapur division, 37 factories have completed the crushing of approximately 190 lakh tonnes of sugarcane, resulting in 206.21 lakh quintals of sugar production. The net sugar recovery of this division has been recorded at 10.85 percent, which is the highest in the state.

The average net sugar recovery of the entire state is 9.29 percent. Experts believe that favorable weather conditions, improvements in the quality of sugarcane, and the efficiency of factories have led to an increase in sugar production. This season's production surpassing last year's figures has provided relief to farmers and the sugar industry. Final figures are expected to be announced in the coming days, with a possibility of further increase in production being expressed.
