India-Pakistan Conflict : Indian Travel Industry Hits Back at Turkey and Azerbaijan Over Support to Pakistan

Opposition to Turkey-Azerbaijan in India, #BoycottTurkey trend; Tourism sector suffers a loss of Rs 3,000 crore.

In a strong response to Turkey and Azerbaijan’s alleged support to Pakistan during 'Operation Sindoor', the Indian travel industry has taken a firm stand, significantly reducing bookings to both countries. This move follows widespread public anger and a rapidly growing #BoycottTurkey trend on social media.

During Operation Sindoor, India successfully targeted terrorist camps in Pakistan. Reports have since emerged accusing Turkey and Azerbaijan of providing military and technical support to Pakistan, sparking outrage among Indian citizens and businesses alike.

In a notable move reflecting national sentiment, Indian travel companies have begun distancing themselves from the two nations. MakeMyTrip, one of India's largest travel booking platforms, reported a 60% drop in bookings to Turkey and Azerbaijan. Additionally, the platform saw up to 250% surge in booking cancellations within a single week.

Meanwhile, EaseMyTrip has taken an even stronger stance. The company has suspended all advertisements and promotional offers related to Turkey and Azerbaijan, citing a “country first, business later” policy. Co-founder Nishant Pitti stated, “It is not right to support countries that take an anti-India stance. Every Indian should use their money in countries that respect our values.”

Analysts estimate that the travel boycott could cost Turkey and Azerbaijan’s tourism sectors approximately ₹3,000 crore, underlining the potential economic impact of India’s consumer backlash.

With support pouring in from traders, citizens, and travel agencies across the country, this action marks a rare moment of economic retaliation through consumer power, highlighting how geopolitical decisions can influence international travel and trade.
