Amrawati: Presence of armed police during mock drill causes panic

A mock drill was conducted at Joshi Market, adjacent to the City Kotwali Police Station in Amravati city.

Panic gripped parts of Amravati city on Friday as heavily armed police officers and vehicles descended upon Joshi Market near the City Kotwali Police Station. However, it was later clarified that the commotion was part of a mock drill conducted in light of the ongoing Indo-Pakistan conflict to assess emergency preparedness and public response.

Simulated Terror Scenario to Test Response Readiness

The exercise simulated a high-risk scenario involving potential terrorist infiltration or a bomb explosion in a crowded area. As part of the drill, police practiced tactical maneuvers to secure the site and neutralize threats. The drill aimed to evaluate how quickly law enforcement could respond and manage such crises in a real-world situation.

Officials explained that the drill included timing the police response, assessing coordination among emergency services, and educating citizens on safety protocols in the event of a terrorist attack.

Temporary Panic Among Residents

The sudden arrival of armed personnel and police vehicles caused brief alarm among local residents and shopkeepers in Joshi Market. Many were unaware that the activity was a pre-planned drill and feared a real emergency was underway.

However, police soon clarified the nature of the operation, easing public anxiety. Authorities assured that such drills are crucial for both law enforcement training and public awareness, especially during times of heightened national tension.

Police Appeal for Cooperation and Vigilance

City police officials later addressed the media, requesting citizens not to panic during such drills and to cooperate with law enforcement. They emphasized that preparedness exercises are vital to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the face of emerging threats.

With the ongoing security situation due to the India-Pakistan conflict, similar drills are expected in other sensitive areas across the region in the coming days.
