In a major development, the prolonged tension between India and Pakistan has taken a positive turn. Following a violent terrorist attack on Indian tourists in Pahalgam on May 22, India responded firmly. However, hostilities continued for several days thereafter, keeping the region on edge.

Now, in what is being described as a historic move, the leadership of both nations has announced a ceasefire, bringing a much-needed pause to escalating tensions. Responding to this development, former U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media platform X to express his views on the situation.

In his tweet, Trump praised the decision-makers in both countries, saying:

“I am extremely proud of the strong and indomitable leadership of India and Pakistan, who—with such determination, wisdom, and courage—fully recognized and understood that it was time to stop this escalation of war, which would have caused so much death and immense destruction. Millions of innocent and good lives would have been lost!”

Trump also expressed pride in America’s contribution to the peace efforts, stating that he was glad the United States could play a "positive role" in facilitating the ceasefire. He further announced plans to significantly increase trade with both India and Pakistan as a gesture of goodwill.

Touching upon the long-standing Kashmir issue, Trump added:

“I will be talking to both countries to see if, even after thousands of years, a permanent solution can be found for Kashmir. Congratulations to the leadership of India and Pakistan. God bless you!”
