Tragic Love Story: Boyfriend Jumps on Girlfriend's Pyre in Nagpur

A shocking and tragic incident unfolded in Nagpur on Monday when a young man attempted to end his life by jumping onto his girlfriend’s funeral pyre. The incident, which occurred on the banks of the Kanhal river, created a tense and chaotic atmosphere in the area. The deceased, a 19-year-old girl from Nagpur district named Ankita, had allegedly died by suicide on June 8 by hanging herself at her residence. Ankita and the young man, identified as Anurag Meshram, were known to be close friends. According to initial reports, a minor dispute and some personal issues had caused emotional distress, which may have led Ankita to take the extreme step.

In a note reportedly left behind, Ankita had stated that Anurag should not be held responsible for her death. Despite this, the grief-stricken atmosphere at her funeral took a shocking turn. Following the completion of the autopsy, Ankita’s cremation was held around 4 PM on Monday. During the funeral, Anurag suddenly appeared at the cremation site and attempted to jump onto the burning pyre in an apparent suicide attempt. This horrifying act left mourners in shock.

Outraged by his actions, some of Ankita’s relatives reportedly assaulted Anurag at the scene. He was later rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital by his father and brother. According to preliminary information, the police suspect Anurag may have consumed a toxic substance before or during the incident. Nagpur police have launched an investigation into the matter and are awaiting medical reports to determine Anurag’s condition and further details. This heart-wrenching case has raised serious concerns about the mental health of youth and the need for timely emotional support in times of distress.
