A sudden fire broke out in the Daund Pune demo train at Pune railway station this morning
A sudden fire broke out in a DEMU train running from Daund to Pune on Monday morning, causing panic among passengers at Pune Railway Station. The incident occurred around 9:00 am, shortly after the train arrived at the platform. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the situation caused significant alarm among commuters.
Fire in Coach Bathroom Triggers Chaos
The DEMU train, which departs Daund at 7:55 am every day, encountered an emergency when smoke began to rise from the third coach from the engine. The fire reportedly started in the bathroom of that coach just as the train reached Pune station. In a terrifying moment, passengers noticed that someone was trapped inside the burning bathroom. As smoke billowed out, the trapped person began screaming for help, causing widespread panic in the coach. Quick-thinking passengers immediately attempted to break open the bathroom door to rescue the individual. Simultaneously, station authorities were alerted, and emergency response efforts were launched.
Possible Short Circuit Cause
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. Railway officials arrived promptly on the scene and managed to extinguish the fire before it could spread further. “The situation was brought under control quickly, and no casualties were reported,” a railway official confirmed.
Passenger Safety Concerns Raised
Though the situation was managed without injury, passengers remained visibly shaken long after the incident. Many expressed frustration and fear over the lack of maintenance and preventive safety checks. Angry commuters are now demanding a thorough inspection of the electrical and fire safety systems in all DEMU trains to avoid such incidents in the future. “This could have ended in tragedy if the fire wasn’t controlled in time,” said a concerned passenger.
Railways Assure Action
Railway authorities have assured that an internal inquiry has been initiated and necessary safety audits will be conducted. Additional maintenance checks are expected on the entire fleet of DEMU trains operating in the region.
