The Aadhaar card is the most important document. An Aadhaar card is required for any government or banking work. In this context, the government has made an important decision regarding the Aadhaar card. This will directly impact the common citizens. The Unique Identification Authority of India, or UIDAI, has made significant changes related to Aadhaar. This will affect all citizens of the country. Let's learn more about this in detail.
The fee for updating Aadhaar card has increased
UIDAI has increased the fee for updating the Aadhaar card. Previously, it cost 50 rupees to change the name, address, date of birth, or mobile number on the Aadhaar card, but now it will cost 75 rupees for these tasks. Earlier, biometric updates such as fingerprint, iris, or photo changes cost 100 rupees, but now it will cost 125 rupees. UIDAI has informed that the fee has been increased due to rising technical costs.
In July 2025, UIDAI issued a new list of documents for Aadhaar updates and new Aadhaar cards. Accordingly, uniform and clear rules have been issued for all Indian citizens, non-resident Indians, OCI cardholders, and Hindu Undivided Families (HUF). UIDAI has also stated that a person can have only one Aadhaar number. If someone has two Aadhaar numbers, action will be taken against them.
The free update period has ended
UIDAI had set a deadline of June 14, 2025, for free updates of Aadhaar cards. However, this deadline has now passed. Now, if any updates are to be made, a fee will have to be paid. Some experts believe that the free update facility may be resumed in the future, but no official information has been received about this.
Free Biometric Updates for Children
Although UIDAI has increased the fee for updating Aadhaar cards, it has provided relief for children. Fingerprint and iris scan updates for children aged 7 to 15 will be free. Previously, a fee was charged for this, but now no fee will be charged. Children's facial features and fingerprints change as they grow, so these updates have been made free.
