Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Ajit Pawar, passed away in a horrific plane crash in Baramati. While he was in Baramati for the district council election campaign, his plane met with a severe accident during landing at around 8:45 AM this morning. All six people on board the plane died on the spot in this incident. Ajit Pawar, born on July 22, 1959, in Ahmednagar district, was the nephew of Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar. Under the guidance of Sharad Pawar, he learned the ropes of politics. Ajit Pawar, who has been active in Maharashtra politics for more than four decades, has held the position of Deputy Chief Minister eight times. He has held important ministerial positions in various governments.
Ajit Pawar, who entered politics in the 1980s, won for the first time as an MLA from the Baramati Assembly constituency in 1995. Since then, he has been victorious in consecutive elections in 1995, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024. Known as the 'Dada' of Baramati, he has established a distinct influence in Maharashtra's politics.
Upon hearing the news of Ajit Pawar's demise, Supriya Sule, Sunetra Pawar, and Parth Pawar immediately left for Baramati from Delhi. Many political leaders across the country, including the Prime Minister, have expressed their condolences.
