Ajit Pawar : Ajitdada's Dreams Remained Unfulfilled; An Incomplete Journey from Chief Ministership to NCP Unification
Every activist stepping into politics has big dreams. The journey from activist to councilor, councilor to mayor, MLA, minister, and finally chief minister is in the minds of many. Ajit Pawar, who has been prominently active in Maharashtra's politics for the past four decades, also had similar dreams. However, the unfortunate accident of their plane while coming to Baramati abruptly halted that journey, leaving many of their aspirations unfulfilled.
Whether it was an issue within the constituency or outside, Ajitdada was known as a leader who would get the work done for the one whose point was valid. Ajit Pawar, known for development, administration, and decision-making ability, fulfilled the dreams of countless people. But ironically, some of his own important dreams did not reach fulfillment.
The dream of becoming Chief Minister remains unfulfilled
“What is in the heart is on the lips” is Ajit Pawar's nature. Therefore, his dreams were never hidden. Becoming the Chief Minister of Maharashtra was at the top of his list of aspirations. The opportunity came close in 2004; however, at that time, the honor of the Chief Minister's position went to the Congress. Even after that, Dada left his mark as Deputy Chief Minister. The state saw changes in Chief Ministers, but Ajit Pawar remained in the limelight as Deputy Chief Minister. However, the position of Chief Minister repeatedly eluded him. Despite opponents' taunts, Dada ignored them and maintained his pace of work.
The dream of NCP unification also remains unfulfilled
Recently, during Dada's tours, banners reading “Future Chief Minister” were seen. But destiny did not agree. Along with the chief ministership, the dream of fully unifying the two factions of the Nationalist Congress Party also remained unfulfilled. Although the party was split, the bond within the Pawar family remained intact. In places like Pune–Pimpri, both factions of the NCP contested municipal elections together. The leader most insistent on this reconciliation was Ajit Pawar—he had indicated this from time to time.
However, during his lifetime, the NCP split and before they could fully reunite, Ajit Dada departed from this world. This leader, who left a mark on Maharashtra's politics, remains in memories today with big dreams, solid achievements, but some dreams left incomplete.
