Central Government : All toll booths in the country will be closed within a year; Gadkari's big announcement in Parliament….
You will not see any tolls anywhere in the next year. Similarly, there will be no need to stand in long toll queues. For this, the Central Government is working on a special system. The queues at toll plazas across the country, the need to stop for tolls, and the hassle of wasting time will soon end. According to the information given by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in the Lok Sabha, a new “electronic / barrier-less toll collection system” will be implemented across the country in the next year. Currently, the new system has been started at 10 locations, and in the coming year, it will be implemented at all toll booths — meaning there will be no need for the toll collector to stop you. Now, the toll will only be accepted through an electronic system. This will greatly benefit drivers.
Gadkari, speaking in the Lok Sabha during the winter session on Thursday, said that a new system has been launched from 10 locations and it will be expanded across the country within the next year. This will completely stop the current toll system, he said. No one will stop you in the name of toll. 'Electronic toll collection' will be implemented nationwide within a year. Gadkari said that highway projects worth 10 lakh crore rupees are currently underway across the country.
The National Electronic Toll Collection program has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India. The central government provided significant relief to drivers without FASTag this October. Under this concession, it was stated that if a vehicle does not have a FASTag or it is not working, instead of paying double cash at the toll plaza, they will only have to pay 1.25 times the toll tax amount. In this regard, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification. This new system has been implemented at toll booths across the country from November 15.
