The accused lawyer's name is Rakesh Kishor. He was registered with the Supreme Court Bar in 2011. It is believed that the lawyer is upset over Chief Justice Gavai's remarks on the restoration of a 7-foot tall decapitated statue of Lord Vishnu in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. On September 16, the Chief Justice dismissed a petition demanding the restoration of the broken statue, saying, "Go and ask God to do it himself. You claim to be a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu, so go and pray to him." Following this statement, there was a significant wave of opposition. Many demanded the resignation of the Chief Justice.

Prime Minister's Call to Chief Justice Gavai

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Chief Justice B.R. Gavai on Monday regarding an incident that occurred in the Supreme Court. A lawyer caused a disturbance during a hearing and attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice. Following this incident, the Prime Minister expressed strong disapproval. Prime Minister Modi said, “Every Indian citizen is upset about what happened in the Supreme Court. There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society. This is a very regrettable incident.” The Prime Minister praised Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai for his calmness and composure. The restraint and courage shown by Gavai in such a situation demonstrate his commitment to the values of the judiciary. This strengthens the spirit of our Constitution, the Prime Minister said.
