Mumbai Local : Big decision by Western Railway before the New Year, 15-coach local to start between Virar and Dahanu

Western Railway has taken a significant step for the convenience of passengers and, for the first time, has planned to run a 15-coach local train between Virar and Dahanu. This decision has been taken considering the growing population and travel demand on this route. Sources say that the operating department has currently sent a letter to the board regarding this. If the letter is approved, the 12-coach local train running between Virar and Dahanu will be replaced by a 15-coach local. According to the information received, initially a total of 6 local services with 15 coaches will be operated. At present, 12-coach local trains run on this route, which will be replaced by 15-coach local trains after approval. Currently, 40 services are operated between Virar and Dahanu Road.
Relief from crowding
Railway officials believe that due to rapid population and industrial growth in the Dahanu-Virar belt, railway crowding is increasing, especially during peak hours. Passengers face significant inconvenience. Introducing 15-coach local trains will increase capacity by approximately 20 to 25 percent, providing passengers with more space and comfort during their journey.
12 services to be increased between Churchgate and Virar
Sources say that the new timetable plans to increase 10 to 12 services between Churchgate and Virar to reduce passenger crowding. Additionally, if Western Railway receives an AC rake by January 2026, the existing AC services will be increased. One such rake will increase the number of AC services by 10.

On Saturdays and Sundays, a large number of passengers travel on the Palghar and Dahanu route to visit tourist spots and for weekend holidays.
