The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a high alert for 13 districts and warned of possible lightning strikes across over 25 districts in the next 48 hours.

Following days of intense heat, the rain has brought temporary relief to many parts of the state. However, the sudden change in weather has also led to tragic consequences. According to reports, more than 18 people lost their lives in lightning-related incidents in a single day.

The IMD has urged residents to take precautionary measures, especially in areas where thunderstorms and lightning are forecasted.

As per the Bihar Meteorological Service Centre, the following districts are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall over the next two days:

  • Kishanganj

  • Araria

  • Supaul

  • Katihar

  • Purnia

  • Madhubani

  • Madhepura

  • Saharsa

  • Darbhanga

  • Sitamarhi

  • Bhagalpur

  • West Champaran

  • East Champaran

Thunderstorm and Lightning Alert

In the next 24 hours, thundershowers accompanied by lightning are expected in the following districts:

  • Gaya, Nawada, Sasaram, Aurangabad, Buxar, Jamui, Banka, Munger, Bhagalpur, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura

  • Samastipur, Patna, Jehanabad, Arwal, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur

  • East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Siwan, Saran, Gopalganj

  • Kishanganj, Araria, Madhubani, Supaul

Residents in these areas are advised to stay indoors during lightning storms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and follow updates from local authorities and weather advisories.

District administrations have been instructed to remain vigilant. Disaster management teams are on standby, and control rooms have been activated in sensitive areas to respond to any emergencies.
